If you’re buying IBPS PO books today, you’re preparing for PO XVII in 2027, or for IBPS Clerk mains on 27 December. IBPS PO XVI is almost over: prelims were in August, mains on 4 October, and interviews are tentatively scheduled for November–December. Either way, most of your marks come from the same three subjects, Quant/DI, Reasoning and banking awareness, and that’s where your money should go. This page matches the books to the IBPS PO pattern and syllabus, lists editions and prices, shows how to diagnose maths before you buy, covers the descriptive paper, and sets out what to buy at each stage and which free resources to use first.

IBPS PO in one box (CRP PO/MT-XVI, vacancies of 2027-28)
- Post: Probationary Officer / Management Trainee (PO/MT) in the participating public sector banks: Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, Canara Bank, Central Bank of India, Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Punjab National Bank, Punjab & Sind Bank, UCO Bank and Union Bank of India (list in section A of the notification).
- Vacancies (indicative): 7,565 across the ten banks that have reported (these may include backlog vacancies); only Union Bank of India still shows “NR” (updated Annexure I, vacancies as on 27.08.2026).
- Pay: basic ₹48,480 rising to ₹85,920 (scale ₹48480-2000/7-62480-2340/2-67160-2680/7-85920), plus allowances and perquisites as per the bank’s rules.
- Eligibility: a degree in any discipline (as on 21.07.2026); age 20–30 on 01.07.2026, i.e. born between 02.07.1996 and 01.07.2006. Upper age relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST, 3 for OBC (NCL) and 10 for PwBD.
- Stages: prelims (100 marks, 60 min) → mains (200 objective marks + 25-mark descriptive) → personality test (non-qualifying but compulsory) → interview (100 marks) → final merit, mains and interview in the ratio 80:20.
- Fee: ₹850; ₹175 for SC/ST/PwBD.
This page also covers the maths-book question, because it’s the most common bank exam book mistake: buying a second arithmetic book when the real problem is DI or speed.
Quick verdict
- If you buy only one book: Disha 133 Topic-wise Quantitative Aptitude & DI PYQ Bank (2015–2026), 10th edition, ISBN 9789371866378. It serves both the 35 prelims Quant questions and the 60-mark mains DA&I section. ₹445 on Flipkart and ₹454 on Amazon; Disha’s own store lists it at ₹413 but showed it sold out on 26 Oct 2026.
- Budget pick under ₹500: the same book. The cheapest useful add-on is Arihant’s Banking Awareness (2026 ed.) at ₹138.
- Absolute beginner who can’t follow worked solutions? Start with R.S. Aggarwal or Fast Track Arithmetic 2027. Never buy both.
- Skip: Disha’s 9th-edition “125 Topic-wise” banks (outdated), old Fast Track Objective Arithmetic 2025–26, a CAT-level maths book, and any “bank descriptive” book whose tasks don’t match the IBPS notification.

The IBPS PO pattern your books must match
From the CRP PO/MT-XVI notification (1 Jul 2026). Each wrong answer costs 0.25 of the question’s marks, and you must clear a cut-off in each prelims test.
| Stage | Sections (questions / marks / time) |
|---|---|
| Prelims (100 marks, 60 min) | English 30 / 30 / 20 min · Quant 35 / 30 / 20 min · Reasoning 35 / 40 / 20 min |
| Mains objective (170 questions, 200 marks, 160 min) | Reasoning 40 / 60 / 45 min · General/Economy/Banking Awareness, including digital/financial awareness and RBI circulars 50 / 60 / 35 min · English 40 / 20 / 35 min · Data Analysis & Interpretation 40 / 60 / 45 min |
| Mains descriptive (25 marks, 30 min, English) | Essay and Comprehension (2 questions) |
| After mains | Personality test (non-qualifying), interview (100 marks); final merit is mains 80 : interview 20 |
What changed from PO XV: mains GA grew from 35 to 50 questions (60 marks), and English dropped from 40 marks to 20. Reasoning, GA and DA&I now carry 180 of the 200 objective marks. Spend on those three before English.

IBPS PO syllabus by section
The PO XVI notification names the sections but lists no topics for them, so this table uses only its section names. The one topic hint it gives is for the descriptive paper, quoted below. Each row points to the book on this page that covers it.
| Section (as named in the notification) | Prelims / Mains | Questions / marks | Topics as listed | Book on this page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| English Language | Prelims | 30 / 30 | Not listed | Neetu Singh Vol. 1 (grammar only) |
| Quantitative Aptitude | Prelims | 35 / 30 | Not listed | Disha 133 Quant & DI; R.S. Aggarwal or Fast Track 2027 for concepts |
| Reasoning Ability | Prelims | 35 / 40 | Not listed | Disha 133 Reasoning & Computer Aptitude (reasoning chapters) |
| Reasoning | Mains | 40 / 60 | Not listed | Same Disha reasoning bank, PO-mains sets |
| General/ Economy/ Banking Awareness / Digital/ Financial Awareness including RBI circulars | Mains | 50 / 60 | Section name only | Arihant Banking Awareness 2026 + RBI, PIB, Budget |
| English Language | Mains | 40 / 20 | Not listed | Neetu Singh Vol. 1 only for grammar errors |
| Data Analysis & Interpretation | Mains | 40 / 60 | Not listed | Disha 133 Quant & DI (DI chapters) |
| Descriptive Paper (Essay and Comprehension) | Mains | 2 / 25 | “May be broadly based on Economic and Social issues, emerging trends in Banking and Technology, Current events, Ethics etc.” | No book; see the descriptive paper |
There is no computer section in PO XVI. The Disha reasoning bank keeps “Computer Aptitude” in its title because it also serves other bank exams; for IBPS PO, use only its reasoning chapters.

Flipkart lists it at ₹706 but showed it out of stock on 26 Oct 2026. We haven’t analysed its reviews yet, so it isn’t a pick. The SBI version is reviewed in our SBI PO books guide.
Maths for bank exams: diagnose before you buy
Before buying a maths book, take a recent Quant sectional and sort every mistake into one of these:
| What went wrong | What to buy |
|---|---|
| You couldn’t start the method | One concept book: R.S. Aggarwal or Fast Track 2027 |
| You knew the method but ran out of time | No book. Do timed sectionals and mixed sets |
| You were fine topic-wise but lost in mixed sets | The Disha 133 bank’s mixed and higher-level sets |
| Arithmetic is fine but DI collapses | The Disha 133 bank’s DI chapters. A second arithmetic book won’t help |
R.S. Aggarwal vs Fast Track Arithmetic 2027
R.S. Aggarwal is the explanation-led choice.
- Edition: S.Chand now titles it “(Fully Video Edition) 2026-27”, but the ISBN and © 2024 are unchanged, so it’s a reprint of the 2024 revision. Don’t replace an owned copy.
- Buyers say (Amazon, about 1,700 ratings): loads of questions, good value, simple explanations. All 13 typo mentions in Amazon’s summary are negative, and some find it too basic.
- Doesn’t cover: independent guides and r/bankingexam users call it light on caselet, missing-table and arithmetic DI. That makes it weak for mains DA&I.
Fast Track Arithmetic is the shortcut-drill choice.
- Edition: it’s now the Completely Revised Edition 2027 (ISBN 9788169826020, 928 pages), renamed from “Fast Track Objective Arithmetic”. The 2025–26 edition (ISBN 9789368406655) is now sold as “(Old Edition)”, and its old Arihant product page is dead (404).
- Contents: Arihant describes general vs fast methods side by side with timings, 4,000+ objective PYQs and exercises graded into four difficulty levels. Whether the English 2027 edition has dedicated DI chapters isn’t confirmed: the Hindi edition’s page lists DI, the English page doesn’t.
- Buyers say: the older edition’s big listing (about 8,000 ratings) praises it for SSC and banking arithmetic, though one buyer found it too sparse for beginners. On the 2027 listings, most visible top-rated reviews were posted within a few days in near-identical wording, so we give them little weight. The one critical 2027 review says the new edition has much less theory than the 2025 one.
- Hindi: Fast Track Ankganit 2027. Amazon credits Richa Agarwal, not Rajesh Verma, so check before treating it as a translation.
Which to pick: if you need the “why”, R.S. Aggarwal. If you understand the basics but are slow, Fast Track. Both overlap heavily on arithmetic, so one is enough.
Skip a CAT-level aptitude book. Bank prelims reward speed on moderate questions, not CAT depth.
Before you order any maths book
- Try the explanation test. Read one worked solution in a sample chapter, close the book, and solve a fresh question of the same type. If you can’t reproduce the method, you need an explanation source. If you can, you need practice, not theory.
- Use what your coaching gave you first. If the notes explain the methods but carry few bank PYQs, add a question bank, not another theory book. If they have plenty of questions but the methods don’t click, that’s when R.S. Aggarwal or Fast Track earns its place.
- Check the last paper year inside a PYQ book, not the year on the cover. The Disha 10th editions run to 2026 papers; anything that stops at 2024 or earlier is missing the current pattern.
- Don’t buy a 4–5 book “bank kit” if you own reasoning, English or awareness material. Kits are good value only when you need every book in them.
- The smallest useful list: one explanation source only if methods are your weak spot, one current PYQ bank, and timed sectionals. One set of concept books serves PO, Clerk and RRB alike.
- Exam in 30–60 days? Don’t start a 700–1,000-page book. Work the topics in your error log, the matching PYQ chapters, and timed sectionals.
- Sitting IBPS RRB too? RRB Office Assistant and Officer Scale I prelims have only two sections, Reasoning and Numerical Ability, so arithmetic speed carries even more weight there. Practise mixed timed sets rather than adding another book.
Same maths books for IBPS Clerk?
Yes for concepts. But Clerk keeps a full Quant section in mains (40 questions, 50 marks, 35 minutes in CSA-XVI), with no separate DI paper. Use Clerk-level sets from the Disha 133 bank, which is graded from clerk prelims up to PO mains. With Clerk mains on 27 Dec 2026, don’t start a 900-page book now. Work your error topics and take timed sectionals.
Books by section
One table per section of the PO XVI pattern; prices checked on 26 Oct 2026.
Reasoning
| Book | Publisher / edition | Stage | Use | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Disha 133 Topic-wise Reasoning & Computer Aptitude PYQ Bank | Disha, 10th ed. | Prelims + mains | PYQ practice | ₹413 Disha · ₹454 Amazon |
PO XVI mains has no computer section, so skip the bank’s computer chapters for IBPS.
Disha 133 Reasoning & Computer Aptitude (10th ed.).
- Why it matters: reasoning is the highest-weighted prelims section (40 marks) and 60 marks in mains.
- Buyers say (Amazon, 64 ratings): good progression from clerk to PO difficulty and clear solutions. Typing errors sometimes make questions unsolvable, and wrong answers turn up in the alphabet-test chapter.
- Learn methods first. r/bankingexam’s usual advice is to learn the basics from free lessons, then practise here.
Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation
| Book | Publisher / edition | Stage | Use | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Disha 133 Topic-wise Quant & DI PYQ Bank | Disha, 10th ed. | Prelims + mains DA&I | PYQ practice | ₹445 Flipkart · ₹454 Amazon |
| R.S. Aggarwal, Quantitative Aptitude or Fast Track Arithmetic 2027 | S.Chand 2026-27 / Arihant 2027 | Prelims | Concept (pick one) | ₹489 (Amazon, third-party seller) / ₹449 Amazon |
To choose, see Maths for bank exams above.
General, Economy and Banking Awareness (mains)
| Book | Publisher / edition | Stage | Use | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Banking Awareness (Anshu & Gaurav); Hindi Banking Jagrukta | Arihant, 2026 ed. | Mains | Concept (static base) | ₹138 Amazon |
| RBI, PIB, Budget and Economic Survey | Official sites | Mains | Current affairs | Free |
Arihant Banking Awareness (2026 ed., ₹138).
- What it is: a compact 168-page static base covering the Economic Survey 2025–26 and Budget 2026–27. The 2025 edition is now labelled “(Old Edition)”.
- Review caution: almost all visible reviews of the 2026 listing are top-rated and in near-identical wording from one week in September, so treat them as low signal. A buyer of the 2025 edition found some important events missing.
- Don’t confuse it with the 2017 Arihant title. The heavy complaints about wrong MCQ answers belong to that much older book.
- Doesn’t cover: news after July 2026. With mains GA now 50 questions, add free current affairs (below).
English
| Book | Publisher / edition | Stage | Use | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Neetu Singh, English for General Competitions Vol. 1 | KD Publication, 2026 ed. | Prelims + mains | Concept (grammar only) | ₹349 English · ₹299 bilingual (Amazon) |
Neetu Singh Vol. 1 (2026).
- When to buy: only if your mocks show grammar-rule errors. English is just 20 mains marks now.
- Buyers say: easy grammar coverage, but page quality is weak. Reddit is split between “useful” and “free YouTube is enough”.
- Doesn’t cover: reading speed, or the descriptive paper. See our Neetu Singh guide.
The descriptive paper: Essay and Comprehension
The IBPS PO XVI notification lists the mains descriptive test as “Essay and Comprehension”: 2 questions, 25 marks, 30 minutes, in English, taken online right after the objective sections. The PO XV notification used the same wording. IBPS says the topics may be broadly based on economic and social issues, emerging trends in banking and technology, current events and ethics, and that answers may be scored by an automated system that looks at features of writing proficiency.
That makes a dedicated descriptive book a low priority. Practise one typed essay and one comprehension-style answer a week under a 30-minute timer, using topics from the banking and economy news you read for mains GA. Check that you’ve answered the actual question, kept to a clear structure and written in plain, correct English, since that is what an automated scorer can pick up. No book gives you feedback on your own writing, so ask a friend or a teacher to read it. Skip any “bank descriptive” book whose task types don’t match the notification.
Buy by stage
| Stage | Buy | Skip |
|---|---|---|
| Beginner | R.S. Aggarwal or Fast Track 2027 (only if methods are unclear); Neetu Singh only for grammar errors | The Disha banks until you can follow their solutions; both arithmetic books |
| Practice | Disha 133 Quant & DI; Disha 133 Reasoning if reasoning is weak | Another theory book |
| Revision / mains (final 6–8 weeks) | Arihant Banking Awareness + free current affairs; the Disha bank’s PO-mains DI sets | Any new thick book |
| Repeater | Banking Awareness 2026 for updated GA; only what your mock analysis shows is missing | The 10th-edition banks if you own the 9th (they only add 2025–26 papers); a new R.S. Aggarwal; the 2027 Fast Track if you own the 2025–26 edition |
Counterfeit copies and overpriced “(Old Edition)” listings
- Old editions still on sale: Fast Track’s 2025–26 edition is sold as “(Old Edition)” (₹423 Amazon, ₹399 Flipkart on 26 Oct 2026), and Disha’s 9th-edition “125 Topic-wise” banks are “Old Edition” on Disha’s own store. Check that the listing says 2027 or 10th edition and matches the ISBN in our table.
- Bundles of unclear edition: third-party “Fast Track 2026-27 + free GK book” bundles (around ₹499–500) don’t confirm which edition you’ll get. Use the ISBN listing instead.
- Fake R.S. Aggarwal copies have been reported on Reddit (Aug 2026), including a pirated copy from Flipkart with blank pages. The ₹250 Flipkart price (26 Oct 2026) is unusually low; check the seller rating and the print on arrival.
- Neetu Singh look-alikes list 650 or 450 pages (the real book has 485). Buy from KD Publication House on Amazon or KDPublicationin on Flipkart.
- Publisher sites: Disha sells its Reasoning bank direct at ₹413, below Amazon and Flipkart (its Quant bank was sold out there on 26 Oct). Arihant’s own prices were higher than Amazon’s on 26 Oct.
Free resources
- Current affairs for mains GA: RBI press releases, Union Budget, Economic Survey and PIB.
- Pattern: the IBPS PO XVI notification and the IBPS calendar 2026-27. ibps.in sometimes throws certificate warnings on strict connections, but the pages work in normal browsers.
- No official PYQs: IBPS doesn’t release its papers. Every “PYQ” book is memory-based, so free mocks are equally valid practice.
Frequently asked questions
Is IBPS PO a government job?
It is a job in a public sector bank. The notification recruits Probationary Officers/Management Trainees for the “Participating Public Sector Banks” (11 in PO XVI), with allowances and perquisites as per each bank’s rules, and the notification makes the bank you are allotted to the final authority for your recruitment.
Is IBPS PO Scale 1?
Going by the previous cycle, yes, but the PO XVI notification doesn’t use the term “Scale I”; it names the post as Probationary Officer/Management Trainee and gives the basic pay scale, starting at ₹48,480 and rising to ₹85,920. Participating banks do use the term: UCO Bank’s official list of candidates allotted to it from the previous cycle, CRP PO/MT-XV, names the post “Probationary Officer in JMGS-I”, that is, Junior Management Grade Scale I (UCO Bank notice).
What is the salary of an IBPS PO?
The notification gives the starting basic pay as ₹48,480, in the scale ₹48480-2000/7-62480-2340/2-67160-2680/7-85920, plus allowances and perquisites as per the rules of the bank you join. It doesn’t give an in-hand or gross figure, and those depend on the bank and the posting, so we don’t quote one.
What is the eligibility for IBPS PO?
A degree in any discipline from a recognised university, held as on 21.07.2026, the last day of registration for PO XVI, and age 20 to 30 on 01.07.2026. Upper-age relaxation is 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer) and 10 years for PwBD, with other categories listed in the notification. Indian citizens qualify, as do some other categories named in section B(I).
How are IBPS PO marks divided?
Prelims is 100 marks: English 30, Quantitative Aptitude 30 and Reasoning Ability 40, with a cut-off in each test. Mains is 200 objective marks (Reasoning 60, General/Economy/Banking Awareness 60, English 20, Data Analysis & Interpretation 60) plus a 25-mark descriptive paper. The interview is 100 marks, and the final merit combines mains and interview in the ratio 80:20. Wrong objective answers cost a quarter of the question’s marks.
Which book is best for IBPS PO?
For most candidates, the Disha 133 Topic-wise Quant & DI PYQ Bank (10th ed., ₹445–454), because Quant and DI carry marks in both prelims and mains. Add the Arihant Banking Awareness book (₹138) before mains.
Can I crack IBPS PO in 1 month?
As a revision run, yes; as a first preparation, no. A month covers a diagnostic mock, the Disha chapters behind your worst mistakes and daily timed sectionals. It can’t teach arithmetic from scratch or build a GA base for the 50-question mains test.
Which IBPS PO books should a beginner buy first?
If you can follow worked solutions, the Disha 133 Quant & DI bank (10th ed.). If you can’t, start with R.S. Aggarwal or Fast Track Arithmetic 2027, then move to Disha. Add Arihant Banking Awareness (₹138) before mains.
Can I use the same books for IBPS PO and SBI PO?
Yes for practice: the Disha banks include IBPS, SBI and RRB papers. SBI PO’s pattern and descriptive paper are different, so see our SBI PO books guide before adding anything.
Is R.S. Aggarwal enough for Bank PO Quant?
For prelims arithmetic, it’s a solid base. For mains DA&I (60 marks), no. Add the Disha Quant & DI bank’s DI sets.
Do I need both Disha banking question banks?
Only if both Quant/DI and Reasoning are weak. They don’t overlap. If one subject is fine, skip its bank.
Will a Banking Awareness book cover all current affairs?
No. Arihant’s 2026 edition stops around July 2026 (Budget 2026–27). Mains GA is now 50 questions, so use RBI, PIB and Budget documents for anything later.
Should I replace all my PO books every year?
No. R.S. Aggarwal’s “2026-27” is the 2024 content. Replace your GA book each cycle; the 2026 Banking Awareness is ₹138. Upgrade the PYQ banks only if you want the newest papers.
Which is the best maths book for bank exams?
There isn’t one for everybody. For concepts, R.S. Aggarwal (explanations) or Fast Track Arithmetic 2027 (shortcuts). For application, the Disha 133 Quant & DI bank. For speed, timed sectionals rather than a book.
Do I need a separate DI book for Bank PO?
Usually not. The Disha 133 bank includes DI from clerk to PO-mains level. Look for a dedicated DI book only if you still can’t follow its caselet and missing-data solutions.

Updated 26 Oct 2026: what changed
- New “IBPS PO in one box”: post, the 11 participating banks, indicative vacancies, pay scale, eligibility, stages and fee, all from the PO XVI notification.
- New syllabus-by-section table using the notification’s own section names, each tied to a book on this page.
- New FAQs on government-job status, Scale I, salary, eligibility and the marks split.
- New “Books by section” tables, replacing the combined reasoning/awareness/English section.
- Pattern corrected from the PO XVI notification: the first mains test is “Reasoning” (no computer section); awareness includes digital/financial awareness and RBI circulars. Descriptive paper rechecked: “Essay and Comprehension”, 2 questions, 25 marks, 30 minutes.
- New FAQs on the best book and a one-month plan; “How we checked” note.
- Descriptive paper corrected: the IBPS PO XVI notification calls it “Essay and Comprehension” (2 questions, 25 marks, 30 minutes, English). The old page applied SBI’s email/précis format.
- Rechecked every price on 26 Oct 2026. Changes since 19–20 Oct: R.S. Aggarwal on Amazon (₹465 to ₹489), Fast Track Arithmetic 2027 on Flipkart (₹576 to ₹547), Banking Awareness on Flipkart (₹127 to ₹206, now above MRP), and the Disha IBPS guide on Flipkart (₹452 to ₹706, still out of stock). Disha’s own store showed the Quant & DI bank sold out.
- Added the remaining points from our old maths-for-bank-exams page: the explanation test, coaching notes first, the last-paper-year check, kits, the smallest useful list, the 30–60 day rule and RRB prelims.
- Removed the remaining SBI-specific advice; the SBI PO page now covers it.
- Removed star ratings.
- Retitled to cover IBPS PO only (“and SBI PO” removed) and removed the SBI exam details and SBI links, to stop the overlap with our SBI PO page.
- Added the full PO XVI pattern and the changes from PO XV.
- Merged in our “maths book for bank exams” guide (that URL will redirect here): mistake diagnosis, R.S. Aggarwal vs Fast Track, DI advice and Clerk notes.
- Fast Track: updated to the Completely Revised Edition 2027 (ISBN 9788169826020) and replaced the dead Arihant link. The 2025–26 edition (ISBN 9789368406655) is now “Old Edition”.
