Choose RRB Group D books around what you are missing: explanations, previous-year questions or fresh mixed practice. If you are starting without usable notes, Arihant’s Complete Study Package is a compact starting option. If a course already covers the subjects well, your next purchase may be just one Group D question collection—or nothing yet.
The four-book bundles need a closer look. One guide plus three practice resources is not the same as four separate subject textbooks. Before paying for a pack, work out which of its books you will actually use.
Which RRB Group D books should you start with?
The Level 1 CBT covers maths, reasoning, General Science, and general awareness/current affairs. A useful booklist must support all four areas, but that does not mean buying four new books.
- No organised study material: consider one all-subject guide, then use its questions to identify where you need more explanation.
- Good notes, weak performance on questions: choose a Group D PYQ collection in the format you need—chapterwise for targeted work or full papers for mixed practice.
- Science is the main difficulty: try the relevant free NCERT chapters before buying another science book.
- Already own suitable books: keep them. Add material only when you can name a topic or practice gap they cannot cover.
Group D and NTPC have different requirements. If you are attempting both, our RRB NTPC book guide explains the NTPC choices. Shared maths explanations can be reused, but NTPC-labelled papers should not be your only Group D practice.
Arihant Complete Study Package: one volume for a study base
Arihant’s RRB Group D (Level 1) Complete Study Package combines subject notes, previous-year questions, MCQs, explained solved papers and practice material. Separate English- and Hindi-medium versions are available. Despite the word “package”, this title is a single study volume.
It is a sensible first purchase if your preparation is spread across incomplete notes and you want one place to begin. Read a topic, attempt its questions without the explanation in front of you, and then decide whether that topic needs more teaching.
The limitation: a compact guide cannot be assumed to provide enough explanation for every learner. If a worked example skips a step you do not understand, use a lesson or a fuller explanation source for that gap. Check a sample in your weaker subject before choosing it as your main guide.
Skip it if your course or existing notes already give you clear explanations and adequate coverage. Buying another all-subject guide just to obtain more questions can duplicate material you have not finished.
What is actually inside the four-book combo?
The Arihant English-medium Group D combo examined here names four components:
- Study Guide: the all-subject study volume.
- 35 Solved Papers: previous papers arranged as papers.
- Sectionwise Chapterwise Solved Papers: previous questions arranged for topic practice.
- 35 Practice Sets: additional practice; the advertised split is 30 printed and five online sets.
The two PYQ books cover the same named exam years—2018, 2022 and 2025. Their arrangements differ, but you should not assume that every question in the second book will be new. The standalone Complete Study Package also includes questions and practice.
The pack makes sense only if you need its different formats. Someone starting without material may use the guide for learning, chapterwise questions for weak topics and full papers for mixed work. Someone who already has lessons and a good PYQ source may need none of those additions.
Compare the final delivered price with the price of the books you actually need, not just the total printed MRP of all four. A discounted pack can still cost more than the one missing book. Match the component titles and language before comparing prices; online sets should not be counted as printed papers.
Our starting recommendation is the smaller purchase. Finish enough of it to discover the next genuine gap before ordering the rest.
Choose chapterwise questions or full papers first
Arihant chapterwise solved papers: for a repeated weak topic
RRB Group D Sectionwise Chapterwise Solved Papers, in Arihant’s Dhurandhar series, groups questions from 2018, 2022 and 2025 by section and chapter. English and Hindi versions are listed separately.
Choose this format when you have learnt a topic but cannot apply it reliably. For example, practise a set of percentage questions after revising the method, then revisit the errors. It is less useful as your first teaching source if you cannot follow the solutions at all.
Chapter headings provide a clue about the method. Once your accuracy improves, move to mixed questions where you must recognise the topic yourself.
Disha year-wise solved papers: for mixed-paper practice
Disha 35 Year-wise RRB Group D Level 1 Previous Year Solved Papers contains 35 sets drawn from 2018, 2022 and 2025, with solutions. A Hindi version is also available. The number refers to paper sets, not 35 years of exams.
Choose it if you can already attempt individual topics and need to switch between subjects in a paper. Start with an honest attempt, review why you lost marks, then practise under the timing and marking rules in your applicable RRB notice.
If you buy Arihant’s four-book combo, its 35 Solved Papers already fills this paper-practice role. Do not automatically add the Disha book as well. Buy another collection only when its contents add something you need.
When a separate practice-set book becomes useful
Arihant’s 35 Practice Sets is an optional next step when you need more mixed practice. It is not a replacement for learning the topics, and the online portion requires digital access. Use the questions you already own first; buying fresh sets will not fix errors you have never reviewed.
You may not need to buy a separate science book
The official Level 1 notice specifies physics, chemistry and life sciences at Class 10 CBSE standard. A one-line GK reference can help you revise a fact, but a school-textbook explanation is more useful when the idea behind that fact is unclear.
Use these free NCERT Class X chapters for particular learning gaps:
- Mirrors, lenses or image formation: read Light – Reflection and Refraction, and work through the diagrams.
- Nutrition, respiration, transport or excretion: use Life Processes to follow how the processes work.
- Indicators, pH or neutralisation: use the examples in Acids, Bases and Salts.
These are starting points for weak topics, not a complete mapping of the RRB syllabus. Use the official NCERT textbook selector for other chapters and language choices. If a Class X explanation assumes a concept you have forgotten, step back to the relevant earlier school chapter.
There is no need to buy the entire Classes 6–10 science set before attempting questions. Read the chapter you need, explain the idea in your own words, then return to Group D questions. Add a paid science resource only if a clear explanation or practice gap remains.
Keep useful maths, reasoning and GK material
The Group D maths syllabus includes algebra, geometry, trigonometry and elementary statistics as well as arithmetic. Do not choose a book on the assumption that only basic calculations matter. At the same time, you do not need to complete every chapter of a broad competitive-exam book.
Use the official topic list to select work from your present notes or textbook. Our guide to choosing a maths explanation or practice book can help if your existing resource leaves you stuck. Its SSC context does not replace Group D-specific questions.
Apply the same rule to reasoning: keep explanations you understand and add relevant practice. A second theory book is not the first remedy for careless reading or poor pacing.
Lucent General Knowledge in English is an optional static-GK reference if your factual notes are scattered. Keep a useful copy you already own. It does not replace science explanations or a dated current-affairs source. Our guide to static GK and current-affairs resources explains the different jobs those materials perform.
If you are also preparing for SSC GD, consult the SSC GD book-selection guide before buying another full set. Reuse suitable explanations, then practise the questions for each exam separately.
Choosing Hindi-medium material
Hindi-medium candidates can choose the Hindi Arihant Complete Study Package, Arihant chapterwise solved papers or Disha year-wise solved papers according to the same learning or practice need. Check the language on the individual listing before ordering.
The four-book combo discussed above is the English-medium product. Do not assume a similarly pictured Hindi bundle has the same components. Read its actual contents, and avoid buying both Hindi and English copies unless you have a specific use for each.
Buy now, keep your copy or wait?
You do not need to postpone basic study while waiting for another cover year. CEN 09/2025 for Level 1 already provides a notified syllabus and selection process. For a later recruitment, compare your material with the notice that applies to that cycle.
Keep an older guide if its explanations and relevant topic coverage are still useful. Supplement missing recent papers or changed information rather than replacing every subject book. A newer printing becomes worth considering when it fixes a specific coverage gap, adds papers you need or improves explanations you cannot use—not simply because its cover year has changed.
Written preparation is only part of selection. The notified process also includes PET, subject to the stated exemptions, document verification and medical examination. Books cannot complete those stages for you; check the applicable official instructions and plan for them alongside CBT preparation.

Frequently asked questions
Can I prepare for Group D with one book?
One all-subject guide can provide a study base, especially if you use lessons or free resources when an explanation is too brief. Decide on further purchases after attempting its questions. You still need relevant paper practice, current information and preparation for the other selection stages; the number of books alone does not show readiness.
Is a four-book Group D combo better value?
Only if you need its components and the delivered price is worthwhile. The Arihant English combo discussed here includes a guide, two arrangements of PYQs and practice sets. Compare its cost with the smaller selection you would otherwise buy, and account for possible overlap between question collections.
Should I buy chapterwise PYQs or solved papers?
Choose chapterwise questions when you need repeated work on particular weak topics. Choose full papers when you need mixed practice and better pacing. Start with the format missing from your present material; there is no need to purchase both immediately.
Can free NCERT PDFs replace a paid Group D science book?
They can supply the explanations you need without another purchase. Use relevant chapters, then check your understanding with Group D questions. A school textbook and an exam question collection serve different purposes, so judge the remaining gap before buying anything else.
Sources and recommendation basis
The RRB notice supports the exam requirements; publisher listings identify the books and their contents. The buy-or-skip advice is PrepPick’s editorial judgement about those contents and preparation needs, rather than a claim of hands-on testing.
